Alex Varanese

Now I couldn’t find Alex Varanese’s face picture, but I did find a lot of his work and I have picked out 3 images of his work that fits best with our Luddite work and the theme.

Alex Varanese is an established designer in San Francisco Bay Area, United States. He used to work as a software engineer and game developer, however right now he is a full-time designer.

He has a style of blending architectural structures with unexpected lights, vibrant colors and varying tones of grainy red,  he has this a natural linking and understanding of old electronics which is unique and amazing. He also likes red a little bit.

I also like how he has used materials to show what a handheld game device would have looked like in the 70’s, with the wooden casing and the robust plastic that joins everything together. Also the way he has used the colour’s to really make the posters stand out, especially with the red hue. I can see why he likes the colour red. I am also a fond of the use of language in his posters, it really works as a selling point and makes it believable that this might have existed in the 70, for example the slogan in the mobile poster “Like any other phone. But without the wall attached.”, this is really smart because the line is catchy for one and straight to the point by describing that the phone is like any other, but not attached to the wall so you can use it anywhere, just the same way we do now.

The artist uses 3D Max studio and Photoshop to create his work and also other software, such as Autodesk

Quot: “As for software, I of course make daily use of the usual Adobe suspects like Photoshop and Illustrator. My real secret weapon, however, is 3ds max from Autodesk; it’s a giant flaming wreck of a program that crashes every ten minutes and looks like it was designed in 1967, but I’ll always have a special place in my heart for it. And by “special place” I mean unyielding disdain and thinly-masked resentment.”
