Rational
For my final major project I will be carrying on with concept art design work. I will be using different media from digital painting to actual paper based drawing, using different mediums and surfaces. The knowledge I had acquired from my last project was, we had to pick a specialised path that we would like to concentrate on and for me that is concept art design. During that journey the biggest skill and the simplest skill I gained was to just draw. That’s to keep the skill and ideas to flow naturally and to help me to come up with concept ideas. When I started this course I didn’t come with any preconception, I came into the course knowing I will be making games, somehow. Even though my discipline originates from fine art and mainly focusing on nude photography and painting and not done anything digital that would allow me to adhere to the course, so I thought. During the course I realised that I would prefer to explore the concept art design side of game making, to keep my practice of drawing up and to learn more about concept design. For the long run I’d like to do my MA that concentrates on concept design or illustration, where I can still apply my skills that I have acquired from my BA fine art course and my game art design course.
Project concept
As I have mentioned before that I will be concentrating on concept art design and my project will be heavily based on drawing and digital painting, but I will need to think of storyline or a narrative that I can base my project on. Also I will need to think of the format, as to how I present my work, because essentially I want to produce a portfolio that can show my work as hard copies or digital for my MA. I could make a book or series or short stories where I explain of how I see the world, displaying the crises or the development of our world. I would also like to work with few of my peers and design some concept art work for them that they will produce it for their game. I would like to see some of my work in Ue4 or even designed on 3D Max Studio. I will carry on researching on Feng Zhu, the artist I have been looking at from my previous project, and taking other artist suggestions from my tutors. The drawings will done in a sketch book and to further developed those sketches I will be using digital programs like, Photoshop and Sketchbook. For pre-production I will be doing research on artist, and exploring themes, ideas, narrative and storyline. My project will be very fluid with using the studio space and doing work independently. However the game studio will be used for digital work and Photoshop. I will try to get at least 1 or 2 tutorials every two weeks if not every week and to get some form of feedback from my peers I will be doing survey on survey monkey, this will help to me improve my project and get more ideas.
Evaluation
To help me reflect and evaluate my project I will constantly refer to the style of my work, the narrative of my work and why I am producing this work and the motive behind it. This evaluation and reflection will be an ongoing process for my project and will be getting updated using my blog. This is where I will be displaying my work with images and annotation, this to show the development of my project.
I will be doing mini projects for my peers as well, where there will be a project brief and deadline been given. This will also be documented and analysed on my blog, using screen grabs of the work and annotating it. I will also have a check list that will show my actions being completed and a rough timetable to keep me on track with my project. This will change as my project develops, but the changes will be documented on my blog.
